Artek Alvar Aalto Stool 60 | Padded
Alvar Aalto
The stackable Stool 60 was designed by Alvar Aalto in 1933 and, after the founding of Artek in 1935, became part of Artek`s standard product range. In the 1940s, the simple three-legged stool became a phenomenal bestseller. The iconic design originated for the library in Viipuri and subsequently spread throughout the world.
The minimalist and functional design was revolutionary at the time. Instead of the usual steel, the architect and designer Alvar Aalto used birch wood, which was abundant in Finland. This made the exceptional stool affordable even for poorer families. And to continue the tradition, Artek still produces the Stool 60 today using a process developed specifically for this purpose by Aalto, crafted from bent, solid birch veneer.
