Gufram Pratone Infinito

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Pratone sofa at Milan Design Week 2021, Gufram presented a new version of what is arguably the most unusual piece of seating furniture in design history. Pratone Infinito is a spin-off of its famous predecessor, upholstered in a green fabric. The reclining surface is also 30% smaller than the original and, consisting of 25 instead of 42 blades of grass, is perfectly suited for the home.

As a unique and unconventional sofa for which no replacement has yet been found, Pratone has become a manifesto of design history. The Vitra Design Museum lists it among its 100 masterpieces of design history, and it is one of the most exhibited design pieces worldwide. An experiment in Radical Design, the piece was created in 1972 by Giorgio Ceretti, Riccardo Derossi, and Piero de Rossi. Pratone is a design idea light-years away from the usual typologies of bourgeois interior design in the 1970s. The polyurethane foam object depicts a gigantic section of a meadow and is intended as a piece of furniture for relaxation.
