MAgriTTA armchair by Sebastián Matta for Gufram | Green, yellow, red

The MAgriTTA armchair by Gufram is a tribute to surrealism. The green apple, the recurring figurative element in the works of René Magritte, is combined into a new unity in the Gufram armchair by Sebastián Matta from 1970.

Sebastián Matta simultaneously plays with unexpected associations (An apple in a hat?) and with dimensional alienation - Matta attempted to translate the deception, the wit and the illusion of René Magritte`s works into a design object. The design was originally created for the Simon Collectione by Dino Gavina.

MAgriTTA is made of polyurethane foam and covered with elastic fabric, which makes the object a comfortable seat. The name MAgriTTA - written using upper and lower case letters - combines the surnames Matta and Magritte, reinforcing the homage to a great artist.
