Seley 1-423 armchair from horgenglarus | upholstered seat
Frédéric Dedelley
The seley armchair from horgenglarus is the result of two years of development work with the Swiss designer Frédéric Dedelley. It is based on the basic principle of the horgenglarus chairs, which was developed in the 1920s and has lost none of its relevance to this day: At that time, it was possible to make a seat frame made from a single piece of deformed squared timber so solid that it could be securely screwed to the legs. This created a chair that does not wobble even under the most massive load and is almost indestructible; struts like those used in classic bentwood chairs were no longer necessary.
The seley consists of a minimum of parts: two front and two back legs with a square cross-section, a seat and a backrest. As is usual with horgenglarus, the seat frame and legs are made of solid wood. The back and armrests are made of plywood, fused into a continuum that makes the seley unique through thermal deformation and cutting: the back and armrests form a common, ergonomically optimized shell. This does not force you to sit in a particular position: the generous seat and the organic connection between the back and armrest, which has no corners or edges, allow you to turn to the right or left. The seley is flexible, comfortable and informal like an armchair. But more elegant and delicate in appearance.
