Scheidegger & Spiess | Bauhaus Imaginista: Its Global Reception to the Present Day

The global influence of this icon of European modernism – the book accompanying the central exhibition for the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus

The Bauhaus occupies a central position in the history of 20th-century culture, architecture, design, and art. Its ideas spread worldwide, resonated with local expressions of modernism, and were translated and further developed within their respective social and cultural contexts. As a companion volume to the major exhibition at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin and the Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern, Bauhaus imaginista traces the international impact of Bauhaus practice and pedagogy against the backdrop of the geopolitical shifts of the 20th century.

Based on a multi-year research project, this richly illustrated volume presents, for the first time on this scale, the reception history of the Bauhaus and its global influence. The focus is on the reciprocal exchange between the Bauhaus, its students and teachers, and non-European developments of modernism, such as in India, China, Russia, Brazil and the USA.
