Scheidegger & Spiess | Charlotte Perriand: Complete Works | Volume 3: 1956–1968
Volume 3 of the most comprehensive, authoritative monograph to date on this key figure in 20th-century design history.
The architect and designer Charlotte Perriand (1903–1999) is a key figure in 20th-century design history. As one of the first women in the male-dominated field of architecture, she designed prefabricated houses as well as the furnishings of student apartments and furniture. She developed her furniture specifically for particular locations and had it produced in small series. Many of these pieces have become design classics and sought-after collector`s items.
Volume 3 of this four-part authoritative monograph on Charlotte Perriand covers the years 1956 to 1968. It focuses on two main areas: first, her collaboration with Steph Simon, who, together with Jean Prouvé, entrusted her with the artistic direction of his gallery for contemporary interiors in Paris; second, the corporate image Perriand created for Air France and the various travel agencies and branches of the airline she designed worldwide; and finally, Perriand`s little-known involvement in the redesign of the Palais des Nations in Geneva, the European headquarters of the United Nations, her own holiday home in the Savoy Alps, two rarely published residences in Paris and Rio de Janeiro, and numerous furniture designs from the late 1950s and 1960s.
