Chair 118 by Thonet | Seat tubular weave

Sebastian Herkner

Minimalistic and honest, yet elegant and filigree

Minimalistic and honest, yet elegant and delicate: The 118 chair by Thonet is a classic wooden chair that adds subtle elegance to any dining table or restaurant. The principle of reducing a chair to as few components as possible was introduced by Michael Thonet in the mid-19th century. The 118 chair is a further development that takes the company`s heritage into account - and goes one step further.

The designer Sebastian Herkner adds sophisticated details that make the design less dominant and more elegant. Another special feature is the shape of the chair legs: rounded on the back, slight edges on the front create a certain break, which takes up the horseshoe-shaped base of the seat. The seat frame, which is bent from a single piece, and the hand-finished seat covered with Viennese wickerwork (canework) are based on the original Thonet chair, the 214. This chair is also available here in a version with a moulded seat (see `matches`).
