Bentwood chair 209 by Thonet | Seat cane weave

Werkentwurf

This elegant bentwood classic is a masterpiece

This elegant bentwood classic from Thonet is a masterpiece in design and manufacture: the protruding bar, which forms both the backrest and armrest, is bent into shape in one piece of solid beechwood. Like the original bentwood chair, model no. 214, the 209 also consists of just six parts.

Its aesthetic reduction combined with its organic form makes it look almost like a sculpture. The Swiss architect Le Corbusier was enthusiastic about it and used it in many of his buildings, including the Weissenhof housing estate in Stuttgart in 1927. He confirmed that this chair `possesses nobility`.
