Sofa bed model 63 by Alvar Aalto

Aalto, Alvar

An elegant sofa during the day and a comfortable bed at night

Whatever Alvar Aalto tackled was transformed into unmistakable creations in his hands: dining tables and desks, chairs, stools, lamps. The history of the Alvar Aalto sofa bed began in 1930. In view of the exhibition "The Apartment for the Subsistence Minimum" that took place in Helsinki in the spring of 1930, Alvar and his wife Aino were faced with the task of developing furniture for small rooms. They were faced with the choice: a folding bed that could be stored in a wall niche during the day, or a sofa model that could be transformed into a normal bed by simply folding down the backrest. They opted for the furniture with a dual function. The sofa can be converted into a bed with one hand movement.

After 75 years, wb form is now going back to the original series and reproducing the sofa in an excellently crafted edition with all its refined details. An exclusive, completely Swiss made product that mutates into a modern designer sofa, is manufactured in small series in limited editions. The furniture in a timeless style is a symbol of a modern, timeless western lifestyle.
