Single-point chair 7-050 from horgenglarus

Hans Bellmann

Hans Bellmann's single-point chair looks very familiar today, yet it is a bold alternative to the popular Heimatstil of the early 1950s.

The Bellmann single-point chair is a milestone in Swiss design history and the high point of Bellmann's work. Its significance is based on the unique fastening with just one screw, which gave the chair its name, and the flexible back of the plywood shell, which provides pleasant cushioning thanks to a central opening. The opening also functions as a handle, similar to the traditional Swiss Stabellen chair. In addition, the notch communicates the lightness and ergonomics of the horgenglarus chair.

The Bellmann chair consists of just a few parts, is economical to produce and, at 3.8 kilos, is extremely light. The designs of Hans Bellmann (1911-1990), who was influenced by his studies at the Bauhaus in Dessau and Berlin and his work in Mies van der Rohe's architectural office, are characterized by the most economical use of resources. The visionary is one of the most prominent pioneers of classical modernism in Switzerland. His single-point chair, known as the '4015 ST', has been awarded the 'Die gute Form' prize several times.
