Haefeli 1-790 chair from horgenglarus | without armrests

Max Ernst Haefeli

Max Ernst Haefeli, a pioneer of Swiss modernism, designed Switzerland's first architect's chairs for Horgenglarus in 1926. Unlike other designers, Haefeli did not seek to break with tradition, but created furniture that seemed familiar.

As early as 1927, the Zurich Museum of Decorative Arts presented Haefeli's furniture in the exhibition 'Form without Ornament', including model 293, the first standard furniture of Swiss modernism. His chairs were published and exhibited frequently.

The simplicity, beauty of form and timelessness of the Haefeli wooden chair is legendary. The high-quality workmanship is durable and sustainable. It has been manufactured in practically unchanged form since 1926. With its unobtrusive elegance and economical gestures, the haefeli has retained its validity over the decades and is still a bestseller today, both for private homes and in restaurants.

horgenglarus is proud to produce the haefeli chair, a renowned piece of furniture that is part of Switzerland's visual culture. In 2014, the 'House of Switzerland' was furnished with the haefeli. As 'Model 4', the haefeli is part of the collection of the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich.
