Artek Alvar Aalto Stool 60
Alvar Aalto
The stackable stool 60 was designed by Alvar Aalto in 1933 and added to Artek`s standard product line after Artek was founded in 1935. In the 1940s, the simple three-legged stool became a resounding bestseller. The famous design was created for the Viipuri Library and went around the world.
The minimalist and functional design was revolutionary at the time. Instead of the usual steel, architect and designer Alvar Aalto used birch wood, which is abundant in Finland. This made the exceptional stool affordable even for poorer families. And, continuing the tradition, Artek still produces the Stool 60 today using a process specially developed by Aalto, using bent, solid birch veneer.
