Horgenglarus klio 3-350a chair | with armrests
Hannes Wettstein
The klio chair by Horgenglarus appears both contemporary and archetypal. The sophisticated geometry of this heavy wooden chair is made possible by the symbiosis of traditional craftsmanship and state-of-the-art manufacturing technology.
The backrest, which flows seamlessly into the armrests, is bent from a 13.8-kilogram piece of steamed wood – either beech or oak – on a machine over 100 years old. After three weeks in the drying chamber, the backrest is milled into shape using state-of-the-art CNC technology and then finely sanded by hand. The ingeniously curved backrest contrasts with the body with its precise edges. Horgenglarus`s signature solid construction and ergonomically shaped seat result in a very comfortable armchair.
The distinctive klio brings a touch of poetry to the clean lines of Horgenglarus. It unites the formally divided collection, which features rounded, organic forms alongside angular, linear designs. klio is a synthesis of both worlds. klio is available as a chair with short armrests and as an armchair with long armrests.
klio was first presented at the Swiss Designers` Saturday in November 2014. The poetic and mystical installation by Studio Hannes Wettstein was awarded the `Designers` Saturday Silver Award 2014`.
