Horgenglarus seley 1-460 chair
Frédéric Dedelley
The Seley chair by Horgenglarus is the result of two years of development work with the Swiss designer Frédéric Dedelley. It is based on the fundamental principle of Horgenglarus chairs, developed in the 1920s and still relevant today: Back then, it became possible to create a seat frame from a single piece of bent timber so solidly that it could be securely screwed to the legs. This resulted in a chair that remains wobbly even under the heaviest loads and is virtually indestructible; bracing like that used in classic bentwood chairs was no longer necessary.
The Horgenglarus seley consists of a minimum of parts: two front and two rear legs with a square cross-section, a seat, and a backrest. As is typical of Horgenglarus, the seat frame and legs are made of solid wood. The backrest and armrests are fused from plywood into a continuous surface, which, through thermal forming and cutting, makes the seley unique: backrest and armrests form a single, ergonomically optimized shell. The generous seat surface and the organic connection of the backrest and armrests, which is free of corners and edges, offer additional seating comfort.
