Sanremo floor lamp by Poltronova | Green or transparent

Archizoom Associati

The Sanremo floor lamp by Poltronova was developed in 1968 by the Italian design studio Archizoom Associati. The Sanremo lamp consists of a slender metal stem crowned by foliage like that of a stylized palm tree. These palm leaves are made up of lanceolate transparent or green fluorescent methacrylate leaves that emit light.

The prototype of the Sanremo floor lamp was an engagement gift from Dario Bartolini to Lucia Morozzi, presented to her in the villa in Roccamare designed by Ernesto Nathan Rogers. "Because we were supposed to be practicing architects, many people couldn't understand what we were trying to do. In reality, many of our objects were created for reasons other than architecture: an engagement party, a wedding. Any opportunity was good enough to realize our vision of the world," says Lucia Bartolini, one of the members of Archizoom Associati.

This prototype also featured a sound similar to the song of a cricket, which was, however, eliminated in the production version.
